How long have you been a member of Cypress Fitness? Since January of 2015

What are your training goals? Right now I am just working to maintain my weight and strength.

What was the experience or motivating factor that compelled you to join Cypress Fitness? Was there someone who influenced you to join? A few things – I knew Brandon from college, my best friend Cassie joined and liked it, and my husband thought that I would really enjoy getting stronger. And he was right, I love it!

List any Cypress Fitness classes, events, people, etc., that you find especially motivating. I love the holiday workouts. Everyone is in a good mood and it is always high energy.

How does Cypress Fitness support your fitness goals? Cypress has been great. When I was planning for my wedding last year, I took the nutrition classes and they helped me to lose 13 pounds. The classes gave me a really easy formula to follow to drop weight, stay healthy and feel full.

Has Cypress Fitness contributed to your fitness progress? In other words, have you reached any of your goals since joining? I have enjoyed running since college, but Cypress has helped me to balance out my fitness regimen. I was able to complete my first Olympic distance triathlon in 2015 and I think strength training was key to improving my time.

Have you changed you nutrition at all since joining Cypress, and if so, how? The number one nutrition tip that I try to follow is eating 50% vegetables at every meal. It really fills me up. I started adding broccoli to my eggs every morning and eating a salad with chicken for lunch and it has helped me to maintain a weight that I am happy with.

What do you think makes a good trainer and have you established any motivating relationships through Cypress? I love all of the trainers at Cypress and all of the long-timers! I like watching people gain strength over time and I love to think back to my first classes when I was afraid to pick up the heavier bells. I do want to give a shout out to Chris. Even after about two years at Cypress, I never thought I could do 50 push ups or 30 pistol squats or 100 track stars in one class. He forced me to change my own expectations of what I was capable of. I love knowing that I could do 50 push-ups if I needed to – even if I hate actually doing them.

What is your guilty pleasure (TV show, sweet treat, etc.)? Well, I wouldn’t call it guilty, because this is critically acclaimed television, but I really love Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Who doesn’t love a strong woman taking care of herself and the world.

What is your favorite app or social media outlet? I love podcasts so I spend a lot of time on Stitcher when I am running alone. When I find a great show, I try on save the episodes for when I am running. It is a great motivation to get out there. I recommend More Perfect, Planet Money or Politically Reactive if anyone is hunting for a new show.
